Explore the world of comics! Comic strips, comic books, and even manga will be our creative inspiration. Students will create characters and build stories and worlds. Learn new drawing and discovery techniques to bring our stories to life and share with others. A supply list of around $15 will print at time of registration
Drawing for Kids
Ages: 6–11
Kids will explore the exciting skill of drawing through age appropriate discoveries and lessons. Use of drawing, shapes, and other innovative activities will grow your child’s ability to see the world around them and great spatial awareness with confidence with drawing. A supply list of approx. $20 will print at the time of registration.
Anime & Manga: How to Draw Characters
Ages: 11+
Study the dynamic and imaginative art of Japan’s greatest and current Anime (cartoon) & Manga (comic) artists. Learn the techniques and materials used by professional artists in Japan and America as we explore and discuss examples. Discover ways to draw people and characters expressively and accurately. Learn drawing techniques and character-building to bring your characters to life. This class may be repeated to continue developing skills. A supply list of approximately $30 will print at the time of registration.
Anime & Manga: Intermediate Characters
Ages 13+ (waived if taken How to Draw Characters)
Grow your drawing skills and take your love of anime and manga to the next level. Students will learn the secrets of drawing accurate clothing and using light and shadow to increase the emotional appeal of your artwork. This class will develop your creativity skills to make dramatic single character and group illustrations. Learn how artists develop and apply their individual style to their work. This class may be repeated to continue developing skills. A supply list of around $30 will print at the time of registration.
Create My Own Manga
Age 12+ (waived if taken How to Draw Characters)
Write, create, and illustrate your very own manga story! We’ll study popular and timeless manga and develop our own story and characters. Learn how to write, pace, and storyboard your stories, and create dynamic and descriptive pages and covers. A supply list of approximately $30 will print at the time of registration.
Anime & Manga: Color
Ages 13+ (waived if taken How to Draw Characters)
Colors and pop culture come together in Color Techniques! Learn and use basic color theory and techniques professional artists use to create their lush and colorful illustrations. We will explore how artists use lighting and how to apply them to create emotional effects. We will also engage in exercises to discover your own personal color style and how to express it! A supply list of approximately $50 will print at the time of registration.
Sketch Your World
Age: 14+
Be creative on your own terms! Sketchbooks are a small, yet amazing creative tool for you to express yourself anytime, anywhere. Learn techniques on how to see and draw the world around you quickly and expressively. We’ll learn ways to expand your creativity so you can create the world inside your head beautifully in the pages of your sketchbook.
Beginning Watercolor Painting
Ages 14+
Create wonderful works of art with this exciting medium! Local illustrator Kelli Roos will guide you through all the materials and techniques. Learn how to create your compositions as we explore landscape and still life subjects. Learn about the materials and how you can use them to achieve your artistic pursuits. We will explore and practice effective ways to control the watercolor paint to bring your vision to life! A supply list of around $85 will print at the time of registration.
Watercolor Painting – Flowers & Still Life
Ages 18+
Beginning watercolor painting class or portfolio required. Develop your technique further using flowers and still life. Learn principles to further your painting and how to successfully execute wet on wet techniques and other brush work to achieve what you want in your work. We will study your photos and live still life in class. All activities have one-on-one instruction from local illustrator Kelli Roos. A supply list of approximately $95 will print at the time of registration.
